Book review: J. Ryan Lister, The Presence of God
The presence of God, although a neglected theme by most scholars of our day, it is central in the Bible storyline. The Bible begins with God’s full presence (manifest presence) and ends with the image of that full presence among His people in the New Jerusalem. But between these two points, the presence of God is shattered by the fall, and from that moment God is graciously working through His presence to restore His full presence among His people.
Ryan Lister is doing biblical theology at its best, providing as with a big picture of this theme from the whole storyline of the Bible, underlying its importance for our redemption in Christ Jesus. He also is concerned to offer his readers the so what? question, tracing the implication of God’s presence for our spiritual life.
It is a book worth reading!
